Skip to content revenues set to decline

January 30, 2008

The VA legislature has finally decided to overturn their ridiculous punitive traffic fees – often more than $1000 – charged on top of normal fines for minor traffic violations.   There were only two votes out of 98 against the repeal.  One was the House Majority leader, who liked the fees for drunk drivers but not other offenses.  You can bet the other was David Albo, a traffic lawyer who we talked about briefly a few months ago.  Albo sponsored the bill being overturned, and presumably made a small fortune in the increased fees his firm (the website is in the post title) gained from all the expensive violations and appeals.

Someday this will make it into one of those “World’s Dumbest Laws” books that my grade school library carried, and people everywhere will laugh.  But the upside – it is again affordable for the common man to speed and drive recklessly in the Commonwealth of Virginia.   No longer is drunk driving an activity only accessible to the rich.
