Stupid Opinion of the Day

October 15, 2007

I am taking a big risk posting this so early in the day, but I don’t think I will read something today that makes less sense to me than this. It may be that I am totally out of touch with reality, but I would like to believe that the average American is better than this. John McCain, who frequently gets in trouble with Republicans for not having a traditionally “conservative” stance on immigration, was asked the following during a campaign stop from a Hopkinton, NH, resident:

“Do the people in Washington — the politicians and the lobbyists and the rich people writing the checks — do they understand the amount of anger the average European Christian, native-born American feels when they see their country turning into a multicultural chaos Tower of Babel?”

The worst part is, this guy was talking about legal immigration, not illegal immigration. He wants an end to all immigration. I am assuming that “European” is code for “White.” Why else would he refer to himself as European when he is condemning all immigrants? I would bet this guy has only the most basic understanding of the issue. He has noticed the average skin color in his town moving from “plaster” to something slightly darker, and is not happy about it.

This is the same type of person that wants to call french fries “freedom fries” and who believes putting a sticker on his car that says “support the troops” is the same thing as actually supporting them. People like this drive me crazy.

To his credit, McCain defended his stance and did not give in to this guy’s heckling.
