What are the odds?

Alex Tabarrok of Marginal Revolution reports that Ron Paul is now ahead of John McCain in political betting markets for the 2008 Republican Primary election.  This may initially come as a shock to many, given Paul’s perennial fringe candidate status.   Remember last week, though, where Mr. K-diggity showed that, based on this compatibility calculator

If you don’t support any of the issues but are generally apathetic to the whole thing, you’ll receive a whopping 78% compatibility rating with faux-Republican Ron Paul.

Does this signal a (small) victory for libertarian principles over neoconservative ones?  Or does it just mean that increasingly, Americans just can’t be bothered to muster up the energy to care?

I was at a party Saturday where a girl actually said she would un-register to vote if she could. I’m going to go with “apathy”.
